| In MSDOS 2.0, Microsoft introduced the backslash '\' as a folder separator character. It's caused huge nmischief ever since. Since the underlying Windows API accepts both the forward slash and the backslash as folder separators, you can save yourself lots of path argument pain by restricting yourself to forward slashes, which do not need to be escaped.
